in need of diagram

i got off this one guy, but it needs wiring..



they tried to fix it, but the wires are all disconnected.


so can someone show me a diagram or


a wiring diagram of a bass with active soapbar pickups and a preamp.

any information is appreciated.

FWIW:

try the PV site or email them (they seem to be very helpful). Never heard of the model myself. Unlike aftermarket pre's factory pre's can be wierd but most pre's have preamp out that goes to the jack tip, premap in coming off the pups, hot lead to battery (typically red), and ground lead.

Most active pups have a small battery lead (typically red) and your usual hot and ground.

PV may have also used the same pre in other basses that year so you might look for a diagram for them.

i think im gonna remove the preamp cause the wires all messed up.


i just have a couple questions about pots.


what should i look for?

how much would hey cost?

and are there differences between volume and tone pots?

In general 250K for single 500K for HB's.

Cost, about $5 a piece I guess - ballpark.

Volume pots have logarithmic taper and tone linear taper (in a nutshell you can use audio/volume for both but in general not tone for volume controls - there are always exceptions to everything in bass mods).

No you don't need any pots. I wire my pup (1) straight to the jack (no pots) with rare exception and work off amp controls as that best meets my needs.

What you do depends on what meets your needs.

That's up to you but to for a two pup setup it's not as practical - although can't say I've messed with doing that to really say but tying them together would be similar to running both volumes maxed which a lot of guys do - particularly with single J's.

Personally if I'm going to have to pups in a bass I prefer to maximize the tone options available and typically throw in a blend pot only - I used to run pup pairs stereo out through two seperate jacks when I used a two channel amp and I liked that setup even more.

It's up to you to do whatever you want. There aren't any rules to be adhered (sp?) to, just convention.
