in search for REAL growly basses

Hello guys,
i want to buy a new bass and the sound i am looking for is maximum growl.

I wondered if you can give me some suggestions on basses that i should take in account in search of the "ultimate" growl.

My desired sound can be found in example on those two links:

My absolute financial limit is 2000€.

I also appreciate info on adequate pickups.

My Yamaha SBV's where the growliest basses I ever owned. I'd probably pick up another one if the right deal came along. They're Japan market only though

Why not just get the bass you think feels best in your hands and get something like a Bassdrive Mosfet or a Tech 21 VT Bass pedal to give you that little bit of dirt / growl.

I kind of wince at the term *growl*, although I must admit that I use it too. It's just that it's kinda vague- your *growl* might be my *grit/drive/mild crunch/whatever*...
THAT said, Warwick & growl go together like peanut butter & jelly, Tarzan & Jane & T and A.
Here's the most growlified, snappy & snarliscious of the well over dozen Warwicks I've owned:

98 Corvette FNA, wenge neck & 18V Duncan preamp. It puts pictures of ice-cold bottles of beer being thrown into a spinning wind tunnel fan w/a a fleet of idling diesel trucks(mic'ed into a 100,000 watt PA)providing the lows. In a good way.

Those are my suggestions as well. The Spector is growly in the mid-bass, the Warwick in the low-bass.

what bass do you already have? I get a lot of growl by using a Dimarzio Model J in an SX P/J bass.

I use a Squire Vintage Modified 70s Jazz.
I like this one very much in terms of playability and neck PU sound, but when i try to get a harder punchier growlier () sound, using the bridge PU and pushing the strings stronger, the sound gets..... hmm... distorded.
beside the skewed sound, the way of trying to achieve the sound i want is very exhausting :>

Actually the growliest bass I have ever played was one of them clear lucite galveston basses. They are heavy though.

When I think of growl, I think of "Paradise" by Sade. It looks like he's playing a Musicman Stingray. Am I wrong?

Ray's are good, but it's a different kinda growl to everything.

IME you can make anything growl in fact when I went to see Cherry Poppin Daddies, his P bass growled like nothing I've ever heard.
