Hi, folks!
I've been using a SWR Workingman 12 for twenty years. It has been good to me and I was always satisfied with the way it worked. Over the years the things have worn out a bit, the balanced D.I. has started making problems, so i switched to miking it for the past 5-6 years, but it's been a fairly ok amp for the type of gigs that I play. Now the time has come to change, I'm retiring the SWR to the practice room, it will still be used for the rehearsals, but I don't want to carry it around any more. I was thinking about ditching the combo idea for a few years now. I would really like to make my gear lighter, but, of course, not on the expence of the sound quality. I'm aiming at a small, light head and a 10" speaker to only be used as a monitor, 'cause if we need to expand for gigs on open air stages we can always add a sub bass to our system, the volume on the stage we always try to keep the same. The gigs we play are more or on less hotel terraces, lobbies and such, where they usually want us to be as quiet as possible. If and when I'd need to add some power on stage i could always get a second 10" speaker to do that.
So now I'd like to ask you for some advices: what would be a reasonably good sounding mini-gear consisting of a head and a 10" box. The music we play is basicaly pop music, I l like to have my bass sounding a little towards vintage Motown, but I also do need to have an option of opening up for a few disco tracks we have in our repertoire, like some Jamiroquai songs or some songs I slapp on or use the pick for. Here's our video, so you can check it out to see what I mean...
