In the studio rant....Part II

Rant #1 covered the studio engineer/owner telling me that it was considered unprofessional to bring a 5er to a recording session. You guys cleared that up with 107 replies, the majority of which told me the engineer was pure wrong, and maybe didn't know his stuff.
So......our drummer calls informing me that we have another recording session coming up at the same studio. With the courage of your vast knowledge running through me, I informed him that I would be bringing my Stingray 5er again. Before I could let him know what all you guys had said, he spits out "Bud, you can be as flashy and showy as you want on stage, but this is about the music!"
Sorry, but I couldn't reply. I'm just stunned. Another warped perspective on my 5er. Oh well, if they want me, they'll have to take my 5er too. And I'll go low anytime I feel like it. I'll let them know that if there is any problem with that I'm gonna let my buddies at TB have their E-addresses AND the name and address of this recording studio.:eyebrow:....Later, Bud

Yea, I can only recall one drummer I ever really got along with. He even wanted me to relocate to Texas from Kansas so we could get a band going where his job had relocated him.........how was I to know all other drummers are such a pain......Bud

Drummer is footing all the money for the recording sessions. Says he'll work it out if the songs are a financial success. But even though I'm not out any bucks, this whole thing is becoming a drag. Bud

You should ask him exactly what he means. Explain that its your tone and your bass lines and that you will play them how you normally do so whats his problem?

I was in your other thread and i gave the engineer the benefit of the doubt at first but now the drummer as well? This sounds like they are treating you as the hired help rather than a member of the band.

Best reply would be....find yourself another bass player. My problem is I don't walk easy. Like I said, I'll let them know the 5er stays.....period. I just wish one of them would understand it is'nt me being a dick. Their learning curve is flat......Bud

Have either the studio engineer or drummer given a plausible response to the question "why"? "Too flashy" does not meet this criteria as nobody can see you on the recording.

I'd look for another studio / engineer but you know that's not going to happen. Face it, some guys just go ape**** if anything other than a passive 4 string P bass shows up in the studio.
