In the studio rant....Part II

How did it work out the 1st recording session with the 5er? Just talked to the band manager......he said the engineer spent mucho time cleaning up the bass track because there was a clicking every time I touched the strings. I was running direct to the board....no amp......I didn't hear all that in my phones.......Jez...I'm beginning to dread the studio...Bud

don't dread it bud, 'shed it. practice - use this as an opportunity to grow.

every time i ever went to record, whether it was by myself or with the band, -every- -time- i ended up hearing how i was no where near as good as i thought i was, and after a bit of self abuse and depression :D i practiced that much harder. in the end every time i recorded ended up being a leap in my ability as a player.

so if they're hearing extraneous noises and clicks in your playing on the tape, you need to take the time to clean up your technique. practice -hard-, and tape yourself - even with the internal mic on your computer. listen for those clicks and clacks - that's probably improper muting of open strings that they're hearing. you can fix that with just a little effort.

even if you do end up telling these guys to go pound sand, you'll still be a better player for it.

This.

Well, I can't get any backing by the guys in the band on this, so for now, it's pull out the 4 string Ric and take the bass line up instead of down. Also going to take my Aggie 500 and Dr. Bass 1-15 and have them mic me instead of running straight into the board..........although I'm sure they'll want to run the DI out of the Aggie, still, I believe I'll have alittle more control. Personally, I'd rather be playing outdoors to 2 old ladies in lawn chairs than spending hours in this certain studio..........thanks for all the talk my friends. I'm off to practice my bass lines minus one string. Bud B
