In Which We Are Dissapoint

I just sold off everything. Only things I kept: the MXR M-80 and the zoom b9.

I kept the M-80 even though I only like half of it, but I like that half enough tha when the switch broke I wired it for on all the time. The dirt side is horrible, I run it clean with more volume for a "step it up a notch" setting. Great pre and great di box. Never leave home without it.

The zoom I keep around to remind me not to buy anymore effects. One day I'll master the b$&@ch! The eq is cool, the ability to tweek the thing with my Mac is really nice, it just a lot of stuff to learn.

Selling off everything raised enough dough for a new amp.

One thing, if Bongomania says its great, you can take that to the bank. The FEA dual band comp was a Bongo recommend and it was super cool. More than I needed but the best compressor I've tried yet.

Lamest ever was the bass balls and the ashdown envelope, followed closely by the boss chorus.

The big muff for guitar was pretty cool fuzz without sucking my low end too bad.

But I'm done with effects, swear to god, I've bought and sold my last box. I don't even know what I'm doing reading this thread!

Ever EHX grit I've tried with the exception of a vintage Civil War. Other people make such better pedals :scowl:

Fulltone Bassdrive MOSFET - Why Fulltone rushed this out is beyond me, but it's unusable with a low B and cuts way too much low end.

All Wah's. I've tried several. Owned 2. They just end up taking space on my board, and I can't seem to get anything to come out of them right.

I've had mixed reviews on EHX. I loved the Russian Muff, the Hot Tubes OD, and the non-nano Holy Grail. They were stolen :-( I love both the original and XO BMS. I liked both original Baseballs (Russian and US), but never really found great musical uses.

I'm meh on the XO Qtron, but it's staying on my board atm until I have a chance to really dig into an SA BEF.

Dr. Q was a massive disappointment. I still can't figure out what Steel Leather is (never tried it) and the Bass Blogger and BBM were both meh when I tried them in stores.

Other than the TU-2 and the CEB-3, BOSS seems like a "Let's shove as many features into one pedal as possible and make them as difficult to change on the fly."

I'm generally disappointed on a whole by most effects. To me they are fun to noodle with, but not all that useful most of the time.

Envelope Filters - They're fun for about 5 seconds and then I don't find them interesting any more.

Overdrives - The only overdrives I like are the ones that add just a little bit of natural grit and warmth to the tone..just that little bit of extra that you can't get from your fingers alone. Most OD's are just buzzy fuzz boxes to me or they have limited range.

If ehx made it I'm usually underwhelmed had to have my big muff super modded before I could stand it.

Most digitech pedals.

Crybaby bass wah the white one. Just even found a way to make it sound useable.

Most boss pedals I've tried we're very underwhelming.

Well, thank goodness for the TB classifieds marketplace! It's pretty damn great to be able to find almost any pedal you want (if you wait for it...) at a decent used price so you can flip it without losing too much $ if and when it doesn't work out.

Seems like most pedals out there just don't like having bass run through them. One hopes that with the significant encouragement provided by the TB community we're seeing a new age of fx designed specifically for bass.

For ex, I've never been able to get a deep or intense enough sound out of the MXR 117 flanger. Or any flanger, so far. And most phasers. All very disappoint. I have been enjoying the HBE Psyloscibe which is pret-ty juicy.

I want to do a little devil's advocating for EH. Namely the Holy Grail's spring reverb emu. Still the standard for dig verb pedals. (can't vouch for the newer nano model) Also my old Black Finger tube comp has a certain thing to it and proves itself useful once every few years. The orig big box memory man, too, though not necessarily for bass.

I've got no problem with Ehx either. I ran a Bass Microsynth for years, there's nothing like it. Nothing quite like a Bassballs either, except the output level issues made me give up. They're great in a studio when you don't have to volume match with the dry signal.

I do think the nano line was a mistake, though.

Lol that's cute. the saying in this picture reminds of one part from the room dubstep song by microw jupiter. Oh hi mark.

I have avoided effects for years, but now that I am in a cover band, I could hear that I needed some subtle color to a few tunes.
I like the envelope sound but was disappointed in the Mooger Fooger MF-101. It might be fine for guitar or keys, but it ws a gain sucker.
Recently got a Digitech Bass Synth Wah. Not bad for what I need it for, but wish it had a wet/dry blend to dial the effect back a shade.
Also got the Digitech Bass Chorus, also not bad for what I was wanting to accomplish. Just use a low rate, low depth setting to give some 'shine' to a couple of tunes.
