There are not many bassists I know, who play bass so you cannot ignore from the rest of the band. I like the bassplayer to sound really up front and in your face - like Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten and danish Ida Nilsen (normally in Prince, but has made two solo albums). Who's your favorites?
Flea, Les Claypool, John Entwistle, Geddy Lee, Chris Squire and Jaco Pastorius (Weather Report, he's obviously very upfront in his solo material). They're the first ones who come to mind. Maybe Steve Harris too, I think it *can* depend on the song.
Mark Adams from the band Slave was very 'in your face'. Same with Jack Casady in Jefferson Airplane (especially live) and Stanley Clarke in Return to Forever.
I love these threads. They give me an opportunity to continue to preach the word of Audie Pitre.(dead) of Acid Bath (defunct). What Audie did still holds great influence over me.
