Indulge me for a second...Squier content

Squier CV 60's Jazz vs Fender MIM Jazz, IMO, very close. I tested them both carefully before buying, settled for Squier though, and it's a fine instrument hands down.
Fender had a bit more of that nice low mid frequency and growl, but was it worth the money?.. I can see why it's worth more, no doubt, but price/performance sometimes can get real tricky.
Playability was about the same and neither had 100% satisfying stock pups.
Build quality was the same, finish was better on Squier, but Fender has been using better (dried?) wood and I could hear it.
But I guess, as a pro woodwind player, I've been used to listening to sound I produce. For an average gig with drums and guitars and everything, there is no difference. That little difference between Fender and Squier can get lost into amp or mix real quick.

Of course I'm talking about Squier vs MIM.
MIA or vintage Fenders are different story. They sound marvelous. They cost a lot, but you get what you pay for.

I wish I could 'like' this comment twice. I don't think they get how disrespectful to fellow forum members they are being when they start talking about what a waste of money any bass more than $XX is. And some of them admit they've never played the basses they are trash talking!

I don't need to compare my Ben Lindsey bass to a Fodera to feel good about it. Why do some people who buy inexpensive basses need to compare them to high end basses in order to justify their purchases??

I'm glad people like their Squiers. You should be happy with the bass you play. Just don't trash talk my bass so you can feel good about yourself.

Agreed. Underdog vitriol is still just vitriol.
