Inexpensive PJ recommendations

Today I found a beautiful blond at my front door. It was love at first sight. She's already moved in.
This was listed on Reverb by Sam Ash as "mint." I don't think it had ever been opened. It has a small ding between the bridge and the knobs. I think it is a factory second of sorts. I had put it on my watch list and they sent me an offer.... $274 and change shipped to my door. Everything looks and feels great outside the abrasive strings and butt ugly pickguard. I hate pickguards. New strings, pickguard removal and pickup swap are in its future.

I don't mind the pick guard on my BB235, but I had to tweak it a little:

Have any pickups in mind? This has a Duncan SPB1 and Apollo, but my 4s have EMG Geezers.

I picked up a lightly used Duncan SPB-1 and SPJ-1 set. They look new. The Yamaha pickups sound good, though. I'm giving the bass a little time to adjust to the difference in humidity before I start changing things. The neck has already moved a bit. Buzz buzz. This is a very dry climate. The trip from the soggy humidity of Indonesia to the drought ravaged plains of central Montana is a big jump. I've had the humidifier running hard just to get it up to 30% in here lately.
