Input on Jazz Preamps

Im looking for input on internal preamps for a Jazz bass. This one will go into a Jazz Deluxe that has been converted to a passive bass. Here are my criteria:

- sold as completed solution mounted on a control plate
- requires a side body output jack (no output on control plate)
- works with existing passive pickups
- sounds great (whatever that means to you)
- may or may not require a battery chamber on the body
- may have a passive mode

So far I'm looking at the Sadowsky. I've heard of a few others.

What other brands should I be considering? I'm not trying to solve a particular problem. Just looking to add a little variety as I have a few passive Jazz basses now and am looking to make one of them a little bit different.

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you have any thoughts on how it sounds or how it compares to the Sadowsky or others?

Every bit as good. Jretro (John East) are one of my favorite preamps.

There's also Audere preamps. Audere is a little more subtle in nature....in my opinion.

I put an Audere JZ6D in my MIA Jazz Deluxe and it came to life. 4 band eq and a 6 way selector for Z-mode presets. Hard to explain, so read this.

I too have this in my MIA Jazz Deluxe. Like Moe said, it really came to life. The bass becomes more versatile with the wide variety of tones it can produce with the Z-mode presets, so much so I sold off my other basses and now only have this one.

The same thing is happening to me. I'm ready to sell my beloved Stingray 5 to fund another Jazz. That way both my E and Eb basses will make me equally happy! lol

I have the Audere JZ3 Jazz plate on/in 3 of my Jazz Basses. They're very simple to put in and sound fantastic, your bass really does come alive with these pre amps.

I don't like my Audere JZ3 preamp. I spend more time fiddling with the knobs to get a sound I like than actually playing it. That short pause when you insert a cable is annoying too.
