Just thinking while waiting for the shopping wife and figured I'd ask. Any trick to installing the covers? Is it just a matter of lining them up and carefully marking and drilling? I'm less concerned about the bridge and more thinking about the pups. Is a retro pickguard the way to go or is drilling through the plastic not a big deal? This is for a possible future project.

  2. I'm going to pump this up with a second question - do regular Fender pickguard screws provide enough depth to hold on the pickup cover through the pickguard and into the body, or is something longer required. I'm guessing that the screws will hold in the bridge cover just fine. TIA!

Yes the same screws are used . I don't have any tips other than make sure they look straight ! I personally don't use them , except on my original '68 and I would probably remove those too if I didn't mind running the p/u ground wire into the body and slightly altering it's original-ness . But I can't do it and it plays great but they are in the way for the way I play so any other bass and they are off in a flash . But Good luck Fellas

  4. Those covers have their holes are against the body though, not through a pickguard before the body.

I can’t help but think that when I see the pickguard screws that come from Fender that they seem too short to get a good grip through what appears to be a distance of double the pickguard. I suppose it isn’t that big of a deal if they don’t work, I can just get longer ones.
