Installing Round Core Strings

I’m sure the question has been posed many times but I can’t find the info. Installing a set of DR round cores. My experience, with 6 string sets, is that you need them to trim them after they are at full tension. That isn’t possible with my bass tuners. Is trimming them to length before installing a problem? Thnx

I don't know where you got that info, but there is nothing from DR that says anything like that.

The two parts are to be read separately, methinks (corrections welcome!) - they're only connected by the 'round-core' common theme:
1) @JohnCandy is about to install DR roundcore bass strings;
2) from his own experience on electric (or acoustic) guitar, cutting roundcore strings is safer after installation (on guitar-style tuners, of course). Which is certainly true (if the alternative is cutting them before winding without any prior crimping): at the entrance of the post hole, the string gets effectively crimped, and the winding secured to the core.

Anycase, since the answer, regarding roundcore bass strings, is give 'em a crimp first: good job directing the OP to that thread.

Just wanted to make sure anyone reading this is clear on what's the proper way to string a round core bass string. Definitely want to make sure you give extra length past the tuner, take needle nose pliers or even fingertips and make a nice crimp where you want to cut. Then make a nice clean cut on the crimp. No need to tension the string or anything. Just crimp, cut, and go. The crimp just ensures that the core won't unravel or anything once you get it tuned to pitch. And by crimp I'm talking about bending the string so you get a little crimp spot from the core bending.
