Hey, i tried to do a search through the forums and couldn't come up with much info. Anyway im just wondering if anyone knows a good bass dvd to start learning with. Im broke as hell and cant afford lessons right now. I do jam with a few friends every now and again but I want to get my bass playing a lot better. I have been using studybass.com and some other websites and youtubes videos. I would prefer just to have it all in one dvd (if there is a good one that is). Anyway any help would be great, thanks!

Also, not sure if it will matter at all. But I recently just made the jump from drums (been playing for about 6 years) to bass this year. So my timing is probably a little better than most new to the bass.

I think your in the right track. You can find a lot of lessons on Youtube for free. The only thing missing will be a booklet. Just look for good foundational videos from people like Jeff Berlin, MarloweDK, and such.

+1 for the Stu Hamm dvd from trufire. Its helped me a ton from complete beginner , along with the hal leonard quick start books 1 and 2 im making really good progress. Definitely a good way to spend some $$$.

Alex Sampson's stuff is a great value. Tons of material and tools/software.

His websites are a bit heavy on the infomercial approach for my taste but he does put out very good material - especially for a beginner like yourself.

Learn to Play Awesome Bass for Any Song Completely By Ear, In Just 3 Simple Steps

In the interest of complete disclosure - Alex used to sell a book of mine - Bass Chopz Accelerator. But I don't believe it's currently for sale and it's not the reason I'm recommending his stuff. I've bought his course and gone thru it and think it's a solid value.

I have to agree that the marketing is a bit over-the-top and I've seen a few guys here take serious issue with his use of the word "secrets" in the program Art linked but as far as what you get for the money, his stuff is tough to beat. His new Simple Bass Playing System is video based and covers a lot of the same information in the program Art linked (which is not video based) in an easier to understand format. It's not a DVD but you access the videos and other tools via the internet.
