This might belong in Band Management. Unsure.

My friends and I want to go down to this space where a lot of tourists walk by, and a lot of musicians play for tips there. Usually just one guy with an acoustic guitar. Saw a guy with a banjo there, though.

But we need songs that are good without vocals. I'll be on guitar rather than bass, and it probably will be my electric with a Roland MicroCube amp. The drummer will have his tambourine. The keyboard player will have his keyboard.

None of us are good with singing. We're probably going to get together before that, maybe work on soloing over a 12 bar blues progression.

Nothing too difficult (No Eruption-esque solos!). If it doesn't have keyboard, our player is good enough to make up a part for it. He'll probably play the bass line.
What I'm considering:

1.) Switchblade (Link Wray)
2.) Love Thing (Joe Satriani)

I'd go with Magic Carpet Ride by Steppenwolf. Might be more recognizable to the average passer by and the music is just awesome, even without vocals. Plus: keyboards!!!
Probably would be a pretty good song to improvise some stuff into as well!

There was a guy who used to play outside Shea Stadium, just solo guitar. Mostly played blues. He would sing nursery rhymes in the progression for any kids. Not a great voice, but it worked.

I would do vocals, but stuff you can get away without great vocals, or semi joke vocals Fulsome prison Blues, Forget You are two thoughts.

Hopefully we'll find someone with a decent voice when school starts. I asked two, but one is too busy and the other is moving.

My last band did quite a few instrumental tunes and they always went over very well. Definitely check out The Ventures and The Shadows.

We used to play these:

Walk, Don't Run
Pipeline
Time Is Tight
Wipeout
Surfrider
The Bumble Bee Rock (aka Flight Of The Bumble Bee)
Miserlou
Blues Theme
Rumble
