So i had the stock speakers in my ampeg 410he swapped out recently. I had a pretty in depth conversation with the repair guy who did the work for me (I didn't want to do it myself because the cab had to be rewired) anywho we started talking about speakers used in bass cabs.....
He claimed that when it comes to bass sleakers that 8 ohm 10 inch speakers seem to him at least based on the repairs he's done to hold up better than 4 ohm 10s. He claimed that he regularly sees 4 ohm 10s get cone creasing and so on and thinks because a 10" being smaller speaker is less flexible and lower resistance or something causes 4 ohm 10 inch speakers to move more than 8 ohm 10". He went on to say with 12" and 15" speakers it's less of an issue as the cones are bigger And absorb more energy without creasing.
Just curious to y'all's thoughts. I'm not agree or disagreeing with him. In fact to my knowledge I don't think I've owned a cab with 4 ohm 10" speakers. My SWR Goliath sr 610 was the only cab I had cone creasing issues with but I have no clue what speakers were in it. I swapped the speakers in the 410 because I wanted to experiment and try something different, the cab is in good shape with what imo is crappy resale value and the speakers where much cheaper than buying a new cab. so I figured what the heck and I am liking the new speakers so far.

The company has a great guitar/bass guy that's done a lot of work for me over the years mainly pickup and on-board pre swaps, basic mods and stuff. The amp guy did fix my guitar players old 5150tube amp a few months back and it has worked flawlessly since. I just thought it was an interesting conversation. I don't really even know why he brought it up, because neither the original 10s or the new ones in my cab were 4 ohm speakers.
