Interesting Gene Simmons interview

There was an UNREAL radio interview with NPR's Terry Gross about 8 or 10 years ago. I've never heard anyone be so offensive in an NPR interview. They even took it down off the website soon after.

He came off as a sexist neanderthal.

I think Gene was using the Ripper to record the Klassic Kiss album included in Sonic Boom pkg.The discs were recorded in different studios and probably to save money, the Klassic sounds like it was recorded "live" to use less studio time.The bass sounds totally different on Sonic Boom

I think on Parasite Ace played bass.

But GENERALLY...
The first 3 studio albums, everyone played their said instrument.

After that...
Gene played bass on Gene's songs. He sometimes also played guitar.

On Paul's songs, Gene sometimes played, but anyone could have played bass - Paul, Eric Carr, whatever guitarist was in the band at the time.

There's different stories about who played bass on Gene's songs on the Animalize, Asylum and Crazy Nights albums (circa 1984-1987). It was minimal from Gene. But my ears tell me he played on some of his own songs. The stories I've been told is Gene was in producer mode a lot and liked turning knobs and rolling tape more than playing bass.

After that, again, Gene played on his own songs. He did play bass on most of the Klassics and Sonic Boom stuff.

And give the guy a break, it's not like he never showed up in the studio. Heck, the bassist from Bon Jovi never played a note on any of the albums.

The bass on Deliah sounds buried, and doesn't sound like the rest of the bass, so I kind of wonder.

By the way, I see you're endorsing Cort guitars, just wondering, have you seen or had any hands on time with the new Axe bass??? I assume it cant be much different from the other ones. Only differences are that it's bolt on and has mighty mites instead of EMGs.

If true,...that makes about 90% of the stuff discussed here simply irrelevant....

as big an amp nerd as i've become, you are absolutely right. it's irrelevant. however, it's not irrelevant to you as the player, and that's enough to where all this navel contemplating we do over our rigs is worth it.

A lot of guys said Gene was the reason they picked up the bass.

Gene's more interested in the song than anything else. And you gotta remember, being in his position as one of the main songwriters, singers and leaders of the band, it's more important than a specific bass tone.

I'm sure if McCartney was honest, he's say the same thing.

I love Gene, I love Ampeg, and I love Gibson basses. But I really dont like that overdriven mid rangey picked sound he's got going on there. His early stuff with the old double cut Les Paul bass or the Charlie Lobue bass is more to my liking

I'd love to see a reissue of that old Charlie Lobue, that would be SWEET!

While reading the BP interview I was on the floor laughing. Whatever you think of him (including the lady players) he spews a huge amount of truth. You obviously can disagree with it but all you have to do is keep on living and eventually it will begin to make sense.

I, personally, have no use for the music of Kiss but Simmons has always come across as genuine in his playing and his spoken words.

I don't know, whut-ever.
