Interesting idea for split single coil pickups

So an idea popped into my head a few nights ago and I've been thinking about it ever since. What if on a double split coil bass you used just the E/A coil on the neck pickup, and just the D/G coil on the bridge pickup and combined them in series. So you had more bass on the 2 low strings and more treble on the two high strings. This might not work well for scales but I think it could be cool for things like octaves, an example (a terrible one but it's the first one that came to mind) is when playing seven nation army by the white stripes I usually switch to the bridge pickup to play the octave parts and then switch back to the neck, this way I would just automatically have the octave parts on the bridge and the bass parts on the neck. Has anybody ever done anything like this before and if you have what did you think about it?

i remember messing with that idea on a J with a pair of split-coil dimarzios in it;

made for a weirdly disjointed sound where going across the neck sounded like two different basses trading notes back and forth. amusing but mostly useless.

Thats what I'm planning on doing, probably going to get a super 5 way switch so I can have the series position and this "octaves" position, I thought I would see what other peoples experiance with this in the interim.

That's actually kind of what I was thinking it would sound like, I dont think it will be a tone I use very much in a band context but I can think of a few songs it could be used for a cool call and response type sound.
