Interesting pop-ish line???

One of the best recorded pop tunes in the history of pop tunes. That song absolutely soars. One of the many highlights that made the sixties...the sixties.

Never heard it covered, not live or recorded. Understandable, it would be a chore to capture the lofty vibe, much less the Cowsill's sibling harmonies.
I play it in a cover band that does all pop n bubblegum from late 60s and early 70s.
We do M.Manns Fox on the Run, The Tea Set- Ma Belle Ami, R.Dean Taylor- Indiana Wants Me too among others.
Great fun!

We're learning a very simple poppy song to play in church next month. Bass starts out with lo-hi-lo slides from the root to the 5th and back through verse 1 and 3, then rooting on the upbeat alternate the kick on verse 2 and 4, then hi-lo octave on the chorus. Easy to play, so could be considered boring, but sounds great. Gives dynamics with very little change in the actual notes being played. The hi-lo octave gives a "bounce" to the chorus.

This thread has gained a life of its own, and rightfully so - if you really want to be an active musician - one who interacts with other musicians (as bass players, it is our calling to be part of the rhythm section/support for the song) then you need to get inside a broad range of idioms/styles and sell whatever that style is with your input on bass. You may be surprised to learn that genre's/styles are only different ways of accessing the same thing.
