Internet browser

Time to geek a little and dip in curiosity. There are so many options out now, just curious what Internet browser everyone is using and/or prefers and why?

I personally have always been mostly a Windows guy. I've used Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Brave and each have their pros and cons. I was a long time former Firefox and then Chrome user until a couple months ago I actually went back to using Edge on my Windows 10 machine. It's actually in my opinion become a pretty good browser.

Recently I downloaded and currently been using the Dev version of the new Chromium based Edge which Microsoft is going to. Been using it for a couple weeks now with no issues at all so far. It's like the best of both worlds, especially the performance and speed the Chrome like backbone provides. I still use the regular Edge version still for bank and other important and privacy needs of course.

Anyone else remember Netscape Navigator/Communicator? Oh those were the times ha ha.

Netscape was cool. it's been so long I barely remember it. I do remember I saw Dos 1.0 in action, before folders were implemented. Use to be "old as dirt" was a saying, now it's "old as DOS".

I mostly use Win 10 Edge but sometimes Firefox and Chrome just to see what their searches find.

I gotta check out the new Edge.

Netscape was my browser of choice back in the day because it included an email client. These days it's IE for work stuff and Chrome for everything else at work, and Edge or Firefox at home. Edge works well for me, and I agree, MS may have gotten their browser right (finally).

Mac. I use Safari for almost all browsing.
I use Chrome for FaceBook, because it supports FaceBook Purity well.
I sometimes use FF, but can't make the pages in the window larger, so limited use.
Installed Opera, but was immediately besieged by trolls. Ditched after a week.
Like Go Duck Go, too.

Cool to see others insights. The new Chromium version of Edge is at least worth a try if you want to check out "whats coming and next" as far as Microsoft's browser is concerned. Yeah as is I'm pretty happy with it and yeah maybe they finally got something right with that...but there is still time ;).

Firefox at least for me became a bloat and memory hog and Chrome did too and seemed to slow down after a while. I want to use Brave a good amount too however some sites still have issues so until they're corrected I'll mostly stick with Edge. Don't have to install anything extra.

As far as clearing history and cache, that's pretty common practice anymore as so much stuff accumulates. As far as plugins, I use uBlock Origin ad blocker and it works very well and is light on resources compared to others and also I disabled Flash and Java from running.

I used Netscape back in the 90's when I was in school. Worked awesome but like all once great things usually it goes the way of the Dodo.

IE 11 at work
Edge on home machines

I, too, used to be a Netscape guy.

I remember in the late 90's getting my first 'real computer' and downloading Netscape 3.0
I was so geeky and impatient (I have a sick love of updates and watching progress meters) I paid $10 to get the 3.01 update.
That was the last time I paid for anything browser-related.

For sure! There is a lot of good extensions out there to help accomplish functionality for things like privacy if you do not trust the "built into the browser" ones. Sure there are some that are sub-par or not as good too of course.

Sandboxie is for your SECURITY and protection against so much bad stuff on the Internet, not for your privacy.

That new MS Edge is too "busy" and too active for me.

As it was mentioned in the other thread, just get a good VPN.

P.S. Nobody mentioned Chromium.

That ain't old. There was a DOS long before that DOS (one of the early 60's ancestors of IBM's OS/360 (later MVS, now z/OS). Now that's starting to get medieval... ;)

For sure, different extensions offer different functionality for things like privacy and security for but a few examples.

I haven't put much thought into browsers for a while. I only use IE/Edge at work. Beyond that I jump back and forth between Firefox and Chrome. On my work iPhone I use Chrome, because F Apple.
I can understand your views on the new Edge, but again it's only in Dev or Alpha mode right now so who knows what the final product will really be like. Ha ha, I share your F Apple views, I only use their stuff if I have to and even then like you I look for alternatives to their stuff to use on them but that's just me.

I use SRWare Iron after @Eric Perry told me about it seven or eight years ago. I like the feature that allows you to run it from a USB drive, no install.
I jumped on board with Vivaldi early, but tired of the constant updates and changes they were making back then. Who knows, maybe it is more stable now.

Having an Android phones makes it easier to use Chrome on my PC, they can share between platforms.
One of the reasons I've not really considered Apple is because I'm such a fan-boy of gOOgle!
Sure, makes sense for the sync option to work well. I have sync turned off on my Android phone. I've never met many gOOgle fanboy's like I have Apple Fanboys...man the Apple ones are sooooo annoying! lol.
