Interview with an admitted pedophile

Goes to show you that moral and legal are two different things.

Very true.

I guess it's all about making money, but it's a little disturbing that anyone in the media is giving this sicko a soapbox to speak on. The guy should be closely monitored, not promoted.

Kind of reinforces my belief that there are too many media whores on TV.

To answer Morf's question, pedophilia is addressed on a more regular basis because many media personalities (led by Bill O'Reilly) have made it their crusade. While I think O'Reilly has a penchant for self promotion (and this issue definitely provides that for him) I can't argue with anything that helps protects children from predators.

Back to Bartman's quote, there's a balance between giving the guy a soapbox and providing awareness to the public. I'd wager an interview like this does a lot more good than harm.

My question wasn't regarding the media or O'Reilly but the reason for posting such a thread here, on TB :)

Amen.

I bet you his website traffic has increased due to this.

:rollno:

The only problem I had with the interview was it was sensational as opposed to informative. He basically acted like
a schoolyard bully, with a television audience as his gang. I only listened to the audio the first time, and wondered, "Why is this guy getting airtime?". Only later did I realize there were snippets of info about what made him special being flashed at the bottom. I would have liked the interviewer to mention some of the stuff he did, like take pictures of kids and put them on the internet, and create a website that shows people how to "enjoy" kids and the best places to do it. That's the big danger and the central issue to his being on TV in the first place. If he wanted to warn us about him, and inform us about him, then tell us why he's REALLY dangerous.

Anyway, the bigger issue here is the law and a few different ones.

If you have someone pose for a picture, you are required to get consent from the model or the model's guardian. But if someone was in plain view, which means they are visible publicly, consent is not required. The concept of plain view is important in order to have a free press.
Sadly, this guy is taking advantage of that law.

The other issue is that as long as he doesn't commit a crime, he can't be put on a sex offender database. He can move anywhere and not be put on a Megan's law list. He can talk about it as much as he wants, but you can't bust him until he does it.
You can't nail him for solicitation either, since he's not technically encouraging others to commit a crime. Although, he is making opportunities and temptations for other pedophiles to assault a kid, if he doesn't encourage it, he can't be nailed for solicitation either. But if anything, I think this is the legal aspect than can be interpreted against him.

I don't know if changing the laws would work anyway, as it would ultimately affect our personal liberty.

Maybe lynching him would be easier.

To clarify, Glenn is not a 'journalist.' He doesn't have to pretend to hide his opinions and biases. He's free to speak his mind and not have to show the "good" side of sickos like this... like there is one.

It's creepy to see how many of the responses of the people who watched it seem to be concerned that this 'poor little pedophile' was treated rudely. Ugh.

wow your right, glenn was justified, that sicko took pictures of 4 year olds and posted them on a website for christs sake.

One follows from the other mon ami. Increased media coverage makes the issue more present in everyone's mind, including TBers.

Oh and Morf, you should get a kick out of this. I was talking to a singer songwriter who was looking for backing musicians and we had an argument about Les Pauls. She swore up and down that they were french guitars and pronounced the name accordingly. I finally asked if it was just one, wouldn't it be sold as a Le Paul? She just stared at me.

That was basically my view as well. I don't have any problems with that scumbag being treated harshly, but in that interview Glenn seemed like he was more concerned with puffing up his chest than alerting the public to the danger he presented or what could be done about it.

Yeap, violence is the answer. :eyebrow:

This thread does nothing to keep me optimistic about people/society, nothing at all.
How so? There are a few replies that could be viewed as over the top but, on the whole, most people here are disgusted by the actions of a pedophile. How is this darkening your view of society? Personally, I'd be a bit dismayed if this kind of attitude wasn't on tap.

I could excuse violence on a pedophile. In fact, I'd stand in line. But I'm not a proud dignified man either. I'm ok with that.

I bolded the important part. I didn't say I viewed them as over the top....just that they could be viewed that way. As a father of two young girls, I am perfectly capable of extreme physical violence if the situation were to dictate it. The thought of that scenario makes me want to vomit, though.

Ok. Seems like we're on the same page, but perhaps slightly different paragraphs. That's where i come from too. With a four year old boy.

He had special contempt for him because he has young female family members in the same cities that this creep has "featured" on his website.

Also, notice that he doesn't feel bad about his sick attraction; he said that he wouldn't want to be cured if he could... and that he would be against non-consensual relations with a 4 year old but wouldn't respond to whether he'd be against it if the 4 year old "really wanted it."

I'd bet my next year's salary that this scumbag has done a lot more than take pictures. He just hasn't been caught yet.
