Oh man there is so much that you can do on an iPad for recording ideas... I use an apogee-jam, audiobus, bias-amp to custom tailor my tone, jam up pro with my bias-amp preset, wow-filter for effects... The list goes on and on... Hardware wise apogee jam is my preference. You can run your bass through a pedal first... Once you have nailed the tone explore it all... Loopy HD is great for looping ideas. There are a few DAWs out there for multitracking as well. Plenty of drum apps to jam to as well as synths galore... Once you are in you will be surprised...

IPad, garage band and a mic

I've been loving this setup. The duet sounds killer. I've actually branched out from the GarageBand and am using Amplitube. Drum samples they have are great and I got about three drum and guitar demos. Only brought my guitar to my folks house so I'll lay some bass down when I get back home. Only problem is that the app crashes when I load my recordings and when it doesn't crash only the drum track plays...hoping for a patch soon.

I bought a Duet a few years back for my mobile rig. It is what it is . Works great, sounds, well, decent and is very portable
