iPhone case: What do I want?

Lifeproof, Lifeproof, Lifeproof. I have had otter box but as someone said it is to rubbery and not waterproof. I have Lifeproof on my phone and my ipad. The phone has been submerged twice while duck hunting and the ipad sustained two falls from a music stand to the stage floor and no damage.

I have a highly developed technique for phone cases.

1) Buy phone
2) Go to Ebay, find a variety of cases for $10 or under (same ones that would cost $40 in a retail store)
3) Order 3 or 4 of the ones that look most promising
4) Keep the one I like best, chuck the rest

If the case costs retail, I'm not buying it.

I will note that I'm not interested in buying a slender phone that fits into my pocket, then enclosing it in a protective device the size of a briefcase. If I'm going to use a case it can't add more than about 2MM in thickness on any surface. Otterbox is in town with me, but I can't stand their cases - they protect great but it seems like they turn a slender phone into something the size of a paperback book.
