iRig : this one goes up to 6

i got my iRig and haven't spent a lot of time with it. been too busy.

i get a distorted signal coming out the headphones when i'm trying to play a clean tone. again, haven't delved into it that much.

anybody have a good "start here" setting for bass?

thanks!

IF you are using the free version of Amplitube or Ampkit, remember you are defaulting to a guitar amp since there is no bass amp included ( unless you plunk down $5 and download one ) That said, I have been getting decent results by lowering the gain and tweaking the eq within Amplitube. Using the Ampkit app, switching to the clean channel and doing some eq tweaking results in a decent tone also.

I'm sure both apps would treat the bass much nicer with one of the dedicated bass amps. I am in the process of playing with both apps and trying to determine which one I want to use as my choice.

I have the 20$ add-on package with all the cabinet/amps. The bass amp does help, but yeah if you want to have a clear sound, you must keep the gain low and avoid extreme eq-ing. Which makes the output not very loud.

All the presets I use are output-oriented : 1 for my earbuds, 1 for my computer speakers, 1 for the headphones, etc. For some its the clear amp, for some the bass one.
The 12x4b and 1x15 work well for me with the gray mic (not the black one). I use the noise gate pedal in the 3rd slot of each of my presets with different levels that vary between 9 o'clock to 12o'clock. I found that most of the line noise comes from the mids so I scoup them a bit.

All that being said, its frickin' dumb that they did not put a metronome volume, that clicker is so loud that there is no way to play ''in the pocket'' and hear yourself.

The irig adapter uses the microphone input (3rd black bar on the tip of 3,55mm(1/8) connector); so no, it won't work with a regular stereo y-splitter (only 2 black bars on the tip).

And unless you have special electronics, you need a male 1/4 to plug in your instrument, not a female.

dl'ed the ($40?) full version of Amplitube, so it does have the bass section.

not really impressed. so far, to get it to not distort, it's at a useless volumes through headphones. and that's really the only thing i planned to use it for.

so far.... meh. not digging it. i'm gonna try to put some time in with it this weekend.

thanks for the tips!

Why does it use a microphone?

I believe that's because the signal needs to be processed by the software via its drivers ''on'' the itouch; i.e. it captures the mic in and then reproduces the sound toward the headphone out...

Benhdy,
the volume issue is the reason behind this thread title.
The best application for me is being able to plug in amplified/computer speakers when I'm playing over my friends' place. For me, the irig could be considered as a cheap multifx-DI box.

not sure about the full version. The price isn't $40 though, I don't think. Pretty sure it's $20 but I don't know if you get the bass amp. You may have to download that on it's own. It can be difficult running a decent headphone volume with no distortion. The key think I found was to trim back the bass volume if you have active p'ups. Hopefully they will add a separate input gain and output level that is similar to the AMPKIT software.

We've updated the AmpliTube iPhone version to 2.0 which has a ton of new features, improved DSP (some derived directly from AmpliTube 3 and T-RackS) and much more. The fact that we've added input/output level adjustment may be helpful to some in this thread too so I thought it would be pertinent to mention. Check out the huge features added and other available gear that's new here at Invalid Link Removed

I just paid for the full version last month, since it included everything. Yesterday I got the upgrade. I was disappointed to find out that the new FX and features I have to pay additional for. Now it's another $25 to get the new stuff.

SCAM! Obviously you were not informed you would have to buy the FX again, Extremely disappointing.

well, companies do have to do something to entice you to spend more money. so if the update just UPDATES what you've already purchased, that's good. i understand if they are selling an add on or more functionality to an existing product, then they should charge for it.

I might be missing something but this is what comes with the FREE update anyone can get. If you do what I did and download the Free version of the software and then just download the bass amp model, this is still all the stuff you get for FREE.

  • You can now control the Input/Output signal so you can match your instrument to the iphone/software and eliminate unwanted distortion
  • Use the built-in mic on the iphone to record your voice or other sounds
  • Retain settings from a previous session
  • manage your presets and give them names

  • Speedtrainer- slows or speeds up your backing track without changing pitch
  • Record your instrument on the INCLUDED 1 track recorder ( the 4 track recorder is an add-on - as it should be )
  • You can now re-amp your recordings
  • Direct import from your iTunes library on your iPhone/iPod Touch
  • all the sounds have been updated to match the DSP sounds of Amplitube 3

I guess bad economic times cause people to get frustrated pretty easily with matters of money. Believe me, as a carpenter that is pretty much out of work and looking at a long winter of wondering how I am going to pay my mortgage, I understand this frustration as well as the next person. The perceived attitude of people, especially people that download apps from the iTunes store for free or .99, that all updates and software should be free or .99 is pretty astounding to me. Think for a moment what it is that you now have in your pocket and what the loaded software lets you do.

IK is giving you a very nice update, FOR FREE. The only thing that is costing you money is the new effects which were not part of the first version of the software and the full 4-track recorder. Try and buy a 4 track recorder for 9.99 somewhere else and let me know what you come up with. And don't forget, if you downloaded Amplitube FREE then this update doesn't cost you a dime and you get all the improvements listed above as a freebie!

I have the Bass amp and the 3 free effects pedals so I've only paid 4.99 for software that is easily worth more than the asking price. I'm assuming ( even though that old SNL skit comes to mind ) that most of the people on this forum have downloaded this package to use with their bass. Why you would download the full version, to me, doesn't make a lot of sense since just about all the effects and amps are for a guitar. Download only what you want, and wait for the sales notifications that come to you directly through the app, and save yourself a few bucks.

I knew it wouldn't be long for something like this.......
Gonna have to hi-jack my daughters iTouch (there's no way in hell she's gonna let me pt this on her iPad!)

IK, since you are listening to your customers,

I wish you would offer a bundle with all the newer add-on (compressor, eq, 4track, etc),
I'm not planning to buy each of them separately otherwise.

I had a few system error/bug/freeze with the latest update. Could list the error code if you wish.

And, please, stop harrassing me with advertisement (for your other app such as groove maker) when I open the app. I can undertsand on the free edition, not on the 20$ package.

thanks !

Oh, I think I would be great if you could reward this thread's starter with some goodies; he gave you good, strategic advertisement and great feedback on your product. :hiding:
