Hi guys, I had some interesting findings today regarding one of my non-IE analog octavers. (I have a DubT but it is not with me currently). I was running my Lakland first through a resonant filter equalizer (rfe) which basically allows me to add a bump at the cutoff frequency and then into the octaver. With the rfe on, the octaver was glitching at the 7th fret E and all the way below. I turned the rfe off and the octaver tracked down to the Low F and sustained without any problem. I went back to the rfe for some knob turning and found the HPF set at ~80HZ (same fundamental frequency as the 7th fret E) with a resonant bump of ~+4db or higher would cause the glitching from the 7th fret E and all the way down lower. I could turn down the resonance just below +4db and play without glitches. Also, if I increased the HPF and bumped the resonance I could make the octaver glitch at even higher notes.

Obviously I created the glitch with the rfe by HPFing at 80HZ with a resonant bump but it’s something to think about—it’s not just higher frequencies that can cause glitching, the lower ones can do so too. So, if you have a lot of glitching with an octaver, it's worth putting an EQ in front and playing with the lower frequency EQ and if possible, doing a narrow EQ sweep to see if there are any offending frequencies there. in a similar fashion i noticed that when boosting the mids of Glockenklang preamp going into the Dubterranea seemed to make the synth sound clearer, it does seem you need to hit the Dub with a good amount of signal to get a good sound.

Great to know, thank you! I had to actually boost treble frequencies on a dark/warm sounding bass to get a different octaver to trigger properly so it goes to show that we cannot expect octavers to respond equally to every setup.

I'd be in on an Oxide. One of the few I haven't bought. Prices on used ones are climbing too...

I should have the enclosures next week. In the meantime I'm building up something that's not-exactly-new-but-sorta-new.

On the Oxide, I do sort of have some ideas for a new fuzz, but realistically there's a lot else in the pipeline before I could get to that.
