Sounds like an easy task for some of you pedal whizzes.
Not necessarily. The problem is that, whoever's building this expression unit has no way of knowing to what it's going to be connected. All pedals will have different things going on in their switching jacks. Maybe the ring and tip are shorted together when no expression pedal is present. Maybe there is a pot wired to the 3 switched terminals, and those 3 switches need to connect to the tip, ring, and sleeve. Maybe a phaser's oscillator is disconnected so it can be swept manually by the expression pedal.
Accounting for all of these possibilities would require extreme universality and I'd have to think for a bit about whether it's possible at all. To make something that only works with certain pedals (like Moog's MP201) is quite possible, but for me as a player, it would be disappointing to buy a box like that to find out that it can't actually be used with all of my stuff.
I have some other angles from which to approach this... Hopefully something will come of it.
