I am certainly not much of an Iron Maiden afficianado, but I certainly do remember playing "Run To The Hills" in a band I was in back in High School.

Maintaining that hummingbird picking throughout the entire song was one hell of a challenge technically. Cool song, too.

Paul Dianno rules by the way! Bruce had a great voice... but let's give Paul some credit.. even though that Battlezone band was awful..

Seriously, some of the Iron Maiden lyrics have been a little silly over the years, but Bruce has one of the greatest metal voices ever. The dude can flat out sing. I wish I had that kind of range.

But to be fair, I have seen Maiden live alot, and Bruce does tend to overstress himself and lose the top end of his voice in a hurry.

Phantom of the Opera the first Maiden song I learned to play (but I use a pick - I can't use my fingers that fast !!!).

A close second is Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner - especially the live version form Live after Death (I think that's what their first live album was!)

Oh nearly forgot 2 others I've alwats thought were great - Moonchild and Infinite Dreams!!!

Still think Maiden are great - but the 3 guitarist thing seems a bit strange to me now!!

Hey, let's not forget Blaze Bayley! He actually is my favorite Iron Maiden singer. Technically he may not be as good as Bruce but he is definately underated and I just love his voice. The dark sound on X-Factor, for which his style is surely partly responsible, made it my fav. Maiden album.
You could also say his voice is less silly than Bruce's, even though I personally would not consider Bruce's voice silly.
I have seen B.B. live with his band Blaze and I can tell you that guy is a great entertainer, too. He's got an immense amount of energy and is notorious for climbing on stuff. They actually put a sign on one of the big light-things hanging from the ceiling that said something like "Not on here, Blaze!".

I met Steve Harris, Dave Murray, Nicko, and Janick last year in Philly :)
It was awesome. I am a huge fan from the 80's and up :)
I think you guys should listen to some of the bass on:

Losfer Words (Particularly the bridge :)
Flash of the blade
Phantom of the Opera
Ghengis Khan

I think some of his best work is on Powerslave, there is a lot of great stuff on Piece of mind and Killers too. I love his bass sound on Piece of Mind, very unique.

He definitely can play :)

Hey Guys,

Yeah, i`ve been a maiden fan since the NOTB album was released. Steve`s tone is very unique, i guess mostly because of playing with flatwounds. By the way, does anyone know how he changed his tone on Piece Of Mind? I think he may have crancked up the mids more than he normally does,i could be wrong though.

What about the intro of "Murders in the Rue Morgue"? He is the bass God for me... I admire the bridge of "Phantom of the Opera"

BTW I like the voice of Dickinson very much as much as I dislike what he said, did, etc. shortly his manner when he left Maiden and had some problems with 'Arry (Steve).

It's great to see other Blaze fans too. His band is really good. Their debut album Silicon Messiah was very strong, if you haven't listened, give it a chance.. expecting more for the coming album "tenth dimension"
