Is 2x10 the best cab?

The 2x15 club would have you believe otherwise.

Or the 2x12 club.

Or the 1x15 club.

Or the 4x10 club.

Or the 8x10 club.

I'm waiting on somebody to pull out some technical data on their Peavey 18x2x10 to prove it's the best, followed by some guy claiming speaker size has nothing to do with frequency response... ect.

It took me a lot of years trying a lot of different amps and cabs to realize that I find 10's to be the best speaker to my ears. And the more the merrier, so :spit:

:p

The biggest sounding little bass amp in all the world -

Did you post the wrong pic by accident??? - all I see there is some Carvin stuff...

I own 3 - 2 x 10 cabs, all Carvin. Earlier V series, R series, and the later BX series. Pushed with the same head, each has its own sound/voice. 1 thing is common to all 3, however: they all sound fuller and have more oomph when teamed with a 1 x 15. Which is the only way I play them.

Here's a fact.

A 2x10 will sound almost exactly the same as a 1x10 (with the same speakers of course) with half the volume or an 8x10 with four times the volume. The only difference soundwise in either would be if you are driving a smaller cab harder to get the volume (I'm talking dB this time).

I've had a couple of 210s, and they sound pretty good.

I've had 410s, and they sounded good.

My fifteens sound good, also.

Twelves?

Man, you gotta be kidding me! Two inches too big to be a ten, and three inches too small to be a fifteen.

Yuck.:hmm:

Carvin is all you need to see...;)

No thanks - Carvin has underwhelmed me in the past, not to mention having a track record of crappy customer service...

I think I'll keep playing gear by Mesa, G-K, G-B, Ampeg, etc... IMO, Carvin's stuff isn't nearly as good as most gear from those companies...

I just find it amusing that a few people that play Carvin gear always recommend it for every occasion...

Is 2x10 the best cab?

For me it is ... I like to use 2 2x10 or 1 2x10 and a 1x18 together. Also for a gig of any size I prefer PA support as well.

I build my own 2x10 cabs. The are about 23.5"x19"x13" or 14" with 2 ports. I like to use 2 eminence speakers 16 ohms each. I wire them parallel so they are 8 ohms per cab. Then I run 2 cabs for a 4 ohm load. I like an ampeg b2 r or b3 head.

Hmmm....I played a Carvin PB-500 with a Genz Benz 1X18 and a Genz Benz 4X10 through the 90's, and it was great. Great tone, great volume, and I highly recommend that set-up...IF you don't mind moving them, or if you have roadies. When I decided to downsize 40 years of collection, this was the first to go, because although I loved the tone and the features of that head, I just didn't want to lift them anymore. I have owned Carvin guitars, still own an L. C. Keisel lap steel (Carvin before it was called Carvin), and can highly recommend the product (way better than Fender) in every way. I never owned any of their basses, but have played them. I think their quality control is unsurpassed, and FOR THE MONEY they cannot be beat. Very consistent, also. Just MHO.

+1...
As a stand alone, a single 210 is pretty much a rehearsal/small gig/on stage monitor with FOH support cabinet.
But...
Add another 210 and use the "two" 210 cabinets as a vertical stacked 410 and you've got a different story!
Better mids dispersion, better low end, fewer phase problems, and great projection.

+1 A vertical twin 2-10 stack is a great gig rig, I love mine.

I use 2 different 2x10 cabs an ACME B2 (2x10", 6" mid and tweeter) and it has a huge sound. The second cab I have is an Euphonic Audio NL2x10" w/ horn, also a big sound. I don't think it sounds as deep as the ACME but it kicksand moves alot of air around. They both fill a medium sized club with authority. Consider them, weight is approx. 38lbs EA and 43lbs for the ACME. I'm currently considering the fEarful 15/6.
