Such pales in comparison to the lives saved and improved by cheap electricity, transportation and all those other good things.
A good portion of the Gulf coast is probably going to be ruined for the rest of our lives. I drove by a BP gas station today and it looked like business as usual. In my opinion, they need to clean up as best they can and then go away.
Talk about overdramatising.

If there is one thing I've ever learned in my time on this world, it's that humans have an amazing ability to make the impossible happen. I seriously doubt that this well will continue to spew oil for years. Some one will find a way to capture the oil from the well, and probably sooner than later.

Tests? Inspections? Drills? Redundant systems? In the absence of all that, how about an emergency plan? But why go to all this bother if there is no accountability when disaster strikes. If they are not held accountable by the consumer, they will not be held accountable at all, unless you count the grandstanding and puffery that will take place in Washington.
