I recently purchased a Tele P bass neck and body from BGP. I have a buddy who's a top notch luthier/bass/guitar builder...very high end who over saw my "putting together" of the Tele-P Bass....the wood, grain, feel on the parts are great. We stayed pretty simple with a Gotoh bass bridge...not the original design Fender bridge but the heavier but simple 4 string bridge.....TVJones Thundertron neck p/up in same position as the original Tele Bass....I put 3 year old LaBella Jamerson flats on the bass...have been playing it every day...not yet taking it to too many gigs. My fav is still my '61 P Bass with flats. I'm having an odd vibration/flutter noise from the new BGP completed bass when I hit a note...both fretted and open string notes. The lower the note the louder the flutter noise it is...it seems. I took the bass back to my luthier buddy and yesterday went through the instrument trying to locate the vibration/flutter noise. We can not locate the cause of this. You just ever so slightly hear the flutter noise via the p/ups through a good mic pre/DI...an API 3124 mic pre. I changed out the strings last night to a brand new set of LaBella Jamerson flats. We took the pickguard off the bass....tightened every screw on the bass...took the p/up out...Still can not stop the flutter noise. The only thing left is....is the truss rod vibrating and causing this. I don't know that it is...I've contacted BGP and haven't heard back yet.....waiting. My luthier buddy has built me 2 basses in the past and has always done my fret/set up work. Best fret/neck set up guy I've run across. I've lived in NY, Houston, London, LA....I've seen lots of great set up guys. IF anyone has ever run across this kind of flutter noise anomaly. Please let me know if you've any ideas what to check for...change. I'm not convinced it's BGP parts...the only theory we have left to prove or disprove is the truss rod. The weight...the feel of the BGP parts I got I'm very happy with. They are good to work with. It took a while to get the parts because they are busy....and I'm a little guy with only the one order. Truss rods are a simple design....I've heard this flutter vibration in the past on other basses I picked up and played in stores...now, I'm having to figure this out on my own dime after spending hours sanding, sealing, staining and putting this bass together. Any thoughts out there?
