Is Deep Purple in the same league with Led Zeppelin?

Paice and Bonham are two of my favourite drummers, appreciate them both.
Gillan and Plant are two of my favourite singers, appreciate them both.
Ditto Blackmore and Page, Glover and Jones, and even Lord and Jones.

They both scratch itches, both are/were top notch.

Love them both. Purple were great and different with Glenn Hughes and David Coverdale too. I find Plant a bit wearing to listen to these days if I'm honest.

Are we talking music or 5-a-side soccer here? Led Zep would be a man down from the outset, so my money is on Deep Purple, unless they got Grant to fill in on the Led Zep side, in which case Led Zep without a doubt.

Your thoughts? Are these two bands in the same league? If not, why?

I think the European and American perspective on DP vs. LZ are quite different.
In America Deep Purple are generally not considered to be the same tier as Zep, while in Europe Zep and Purple are considered the same tier, because in Europe Deep Purple generally have a much higher status than in the USA. In America Zep could have a status "the ultimate rock gods". That was always my impression. Maybe I'm wrong.

Let's discuss.

Gross touring receipts, record sales, and longevity weigh heavily in Zep’s favor. No know on the Purples, a formidable band in their own right.

To me, who I Am a total nobody, the sound of Paice’s drums and is tempo and out of tempo (listen carefully towards the end .. this is drums school) licks in “Maybe Am a Leo” do belong to my personal list of best drum Lines … go Ian !
