Your thoughts? Are these two bands in the same league? If not, why?

I think the European and American perspective on DP vs. LZ are quite different.
In America Deep Purple are generally not considered to be the same tier as Zep, while in Europe Zep and Purple are considered the same tier, because in Europe Deep Purple generally have a much higher status than in the USA. In America Zep could have a status "the ultimate rock gods". That was always my impression. Maybe I'm wrong.

Let's discuss.
Gross touring receipts, record sales, and longevity weigh heavily in Zep’s favor. No know on the Purples, a formidable band in their own right.
 
Are we talking music or 5-a-side soccer here? Led Zep would be a man down from the outset, so my money is on Deep Purple, unless they got Grant to fill in on the Led Zep side, in which case Led Zep without a doubt.
Of course, Peart-era Rush would beat both as he would use his intellectual skills to convince the other side to score an own goal or something.
