Is Fame Contagious? A Gig Report, Kinda

We ain't all that. We ain't even SOME of that. We don't have a following and we don't "move units." We've been around for 18 years, no one knows our name, we refuse to break up in spite of living in different states, and hadn't played live (all together) in five years until a couple of weeks ago in Brooklyn.

Yet through some strange booking magic, our drummer set up a show with us sandwiched between two bands enjoyed by famous rock critic Robert Christgau, on the nutty off-chance that he'd show up and see us accidentally. To what end, we dared not imagine.

Insanely, the ploy worked and he showed up, but I don't know him by sight. Shortly before our set an older gentleman brushed past me on his way to talk to someone interesting, and my BL confirmed it was him. Actual. Physical. Contact.

The bands surrounding us packed the house, played great, and didn't disappoint, as expected. Our set was perhaps less well attended, though the stage lights were so blinding we weren't able to see the room at all. We got mixed attendance numbers from friends, so we're more inclined to believe the lower numbers. No conformation on Mr. Christgau's presence while we played, and we'll likely die without knowing what snark he might have bestowed upon us.

However, I can now make this Entirely Factual Statement:

My band played a show in Brooklyn at which I rubbed shoulders with the likes of Robert Christgau.

You may now line up for autographs.
