Is he really the Stig?

I was surprised to find that Clarkson is a couple years younger than I.

Actually, I would've guessed he was in about his mid 50s.

How old is he? Or you? I would've also guessed mid 50's.

To the topic, mr X obviodlu isn't the Stig. They're just f*cking with the people ranting about Stigs personality over the internet, just like when they gave the "I am the Stig" shirt to Mark Webber. I have no idea how many drivers Stig really is but there are probably several that have risen to the occasion. But I do think that there is one "regular Stig" and the others when others are needed for one reason or other. But who ever he is/ they are, are obviosly decent drivers when thinking about what they did in the 24h race and even more when thinking about the UK vs Germany match where he beat a german touring car professional even with a time penalty and a mistake with locking breaks.

And to be honest, I really don't care that much. It's just all great entertainment.

Clarkson's said so himself in interviews - this is a quote from an interview he did for Times Online:

I think, if new boys at Repton were always called Stig, prior to the early 70s, this would have predated Blomqvist's fame (71-77 or so), and Stig Of The Dump was published in '63 (I would assume that, having being born in 1960, Clarkson attended Repton in the early 70s).

Even when I was at primary school in the 70s, Stig Of The Dump was pretty well-known... all the scruffier kids ended up being called "Stig". :D

But surely you have learned by now that Clarkson is a huge "wind-up " merchant - his whole persona is based on coming out with blatant untruths and then sarcastically lambasting you, if you actually were stupid enough to believe it!!

Every interview I have seen - he has just been "toying" with the interviewer and never gives a serious answer - that's his character!

I can remember them talking about Stig Blomqvist, when it started and there was definitely talk that he was going to be on the show.

Clarkson is clearly just being sarcastic, when he talks about Repton - at the time "Top Gear" first appeared on the BBC, Stig Blomqvist was a household name and particularly amongst British motor sport fans like myself, who went along to Brands Hatch every week and read "AutoSport" - whereas "Stig of the Dump" would have drawn a total blank until much later when it was made into a kiddies TV show....:eyebrow:

You had to be there!! ;)
