is it just me

I'm sure some people might not like it either. It doesn't bother me when someone in my band does it, as long as they aren't tossing it around, which they don't.

However, I'm bothered when I leave my bass in the practice space and come back to find it tuned down like a whole step or something.

My drummer will occassionally ask pick up my bass and fiddle around. He is careful with it so I don't mind. But generally unless you are a bassist (that I know and like) I don't let anyone touch it. It feels different to me after someone else handles it.

I have a MIM Fender P that I use if I host an open jam night. Besides that, I don't let anyone play my basses. In my basement for a minute or two, fine. But I don't lend them out, let people play them for a few tunes, etc.

Sorry, if some drunk idiot drops my Sadowsky NYC do you think I will have much of a chance getting $3000 or whatever the replacement cost is from a person I likely don't know? Not likely. Now if I am being a drunk idiot and break my bass, I can deal with that!;):D

The morning after a jam in my studio, I found the headstock on my Les Paul cracked in three places. Whoever dropped it never said a word to me.

is it just me or other people feel this way. whenever a friend or a band member picks up my bass and starts playing it, it realy starts to bother me.
This is the little know advantage of the Steinberger XL; you can beat them soundly with it for touching your bass without asking and without damage to the bass. Whilst they are laying on the floor in a pool of their own blood, the composite finish easily wipes clean.

I despise this. I hate when people touch my bass and especially when you just can't say no without feeling like a jerk. They always end up being some clown with poor slap technique just banging away on my bass. "O, it's a stingray! Look I'm Flea," as they slap away. It's horrible. Every note, or more like every noise they produce just hurts my soul.

I don't mind too much. I usually ask to play guitarists guitars (I SUCK at guitar) and drummer's drum kits just because I want to see what the different instruments sound and feel like. I usually hold out my bass when I'm doing this and ask if they want a quick noodle on it. Provided they don't trash it, and I'm good enough at bass to know how to not trash a guitar when I borrow one :P

This would make me cry, however :P
