I hear a lot of young gospel bassist and they are very good, but they all sound the same to me. Is it just me or is there something to what I said?

Playing devil's advocate here -- isn't that a good thing? If they all play well and sound alike, you never have to worry about your first call sub being unavailable. Just take the next guy.

Or, from another angle: Why do you feel that every musician needs to have a distinct voice?

Why would it be surprising if musicians in the same genre sound similar?

I think it's also the more familiar you are with a genre, or style, especially if you've not actually attempted it directly. The more you do, the more the nuances between players start to surface. This could be even said with regards to bands, or other instruments, e.g., someone unfamiliar with Jazz might not hear the difference between Max Roach and Elvin Jones, or someone who never played or listened to hardcore might not hear the difference between the Bad Brains and Minor Threat.

Personally, I do feel that way actually. Not everyone has to, I'm not a judge or anything like that. I believe everyone has a voice, like your handwriting, it's just a matter of how much do you prioritize having one, what do you do to squelch it or pronounce it.
