Is it safe to reuse strings on a headless bass

Hello everyone,

I own a headless bass equipped with a headpiece that allows use of single ball end bass strings. Would it be OK to take the strings off, soak them in acetone and put them back on the bass? If I understand correctly this system claps the string and in that process damages the string a bit. Would it be too risky to put already damaged string back on the bass one more time?

It will be a crap shoot with not good odds of it working. Of course soaking strings doesn't work either so no big deal :)

But every time I have tried it the string either breaks (especially the small strings) or it can't tune because you can't pull it tight before locking it down. That's at least with my Kiesel, not sure what you have or how it clamps.
