I feel if I get a cheapie backup bass I may practice more and screw around with controls less

Is it wrong to want a Rogue LX205B like this?

I mean, $99 for an upgradable 5 string sounds too good to be true.

I'm used to nice basses, but I'm GAS'ing for one of these

One of my basses is a Rogue Short Scale. The only thing I had done is take out the pickup and put in a DiMarzio Rail, yeah I know the pickup costs as much as the bass, but other than a cheap pickup the rest of the bass is of average or better quality. Neck is perfectly straight, stays in tune, and when I had the PU changed had a setup done and the tech said for the money he was impressed. For $99 and maybe a new pickup, you can't go wrong.

Actually, Rogue's higher-end models are very nice and still a great value. The $100 ones are hit and miss in my experience.
We have a store that sells them and I've played a bunch.
I own the LX400III and the LX408, and they are worth a lot more than what I paid.
Other bassists who try them usually guess that they are in the $500+ range.

The only thing I have to go by are the two I've tried which would be the lx200f I picked up off crags for $60 WITH extra set of rs88's and heavily padded MF gig bag. P Pickup is weak but gives a cool muted thump sound I like better than Qp. Bridge pickup pretty much useless swapped for Qp I had. Very sting sound going on for $60.

The other one was the one I mentioned earlier that I played at gc. Used, body way too light for me. Should have got it anyway but they wanted $99 and MF was selling them new at the time for $100. I think I was just broke at the time, so I never pulled the MF trigger. But man... I could fly on that neck.

"Nice" basses don't necessarily have anything to do with cost, the name/logo on the headstock, or place of manufacture.

Play what you like and like what you play. Who cares what anybody else plays, or what they think?

Some el-cheapo basses made these days are pretty darned high quality. Even folks who play high-dollar, high-end basses could use a cheapie to bang around on, right?

they are pretty good for 100 dollars. my first bass is an lx205b. its 34" not 31" scale btw.

Depends on which version you have. I know the lx205b II is not 34", it's shorter. MF listed 31" in their specs and that's about right. Looks like it was a failed experiment though because the series III is out now and it's 34"
