Is Kalium having issues or is this normal?

It's not strange, i explained why i can't justify ordering from them. It's fine to be enthusiastic about a project without actually buying the product, and many people do this over products they cannot afford.
I was always intending to try at least one set but my need for experimentation and the shipping cost always put me off, and i never had an actual need for their special lengths or gauges and was very happy with buying D'Addario singels locally. More recently my financial situation is really bad which rules it out completely.

I don't need to defend the product, it seems to be excellent from other's reports.

I admit that i have been too easy on them here. Skip has been an internet acquiaintance of mine for 12 years and i was part of the ERB community where he and i and others discussed string tensions and set design a lot, and this is was when Skip first had the idea for Circle K Strings. This history has probably made me more supportive of them and made me see things in the most positive and generous perspective.

I have defended them against *unreasonable* attacks and slander, which has happened quite often here as people get together to rant and then sometimes go too far. But to be clear i, now, do not defend their bad customer service at all.

However, your post could be misinterpreted, i have never *completely* defended what they have done, but i admit i have been too lenient.

Many times i got involved because i follow the company closely and so had information that was helpful. Also a few times i posted to defend them against *unreasonable* attacks and baseless accusations.

Just to be clear, as with GK Growl's post, your post could be interpreted as saying i have *completely* defended things they have done, which i never did, and i do not now. However i understand you probably do not mean to imply that.

I have a fairly personal email address of his, and months ago have linked him to the complaints here and have made suggestions to improve things. I won't share his response because it's personal correspondance.

I have also tagged other members of Kalium (Chris and their previous customer service guy who didn't seem to do much) many times on FB to link them to complaints to try to get orders investigated. I have made suggestions for improvements many times to Chris on FB, and i told him i was sceptical about their claims of shipping issues being due to their shipper. Many people's orders were sorted out due to me making a fuss on FB.

So, here i seemed too supportive of them, but elsewhere, i have made a big fuss and been a pain in their asses :)

After reading all this I am still left with one conclusion about ixlramp and Kalium strings. ixlramp believes that because he has a friendly relationship with Skip at Kalium that he can come onto threads where consumers have legitimate complaints and attempt to defend Kalium strings behavior as appropriate. Cognitive dissonance allows ixlramp to scold Kalium and Skip for their crappy service but then turn around and say how good they are because he knows Skip and his intentions are good (even though the evidence is showing otherwise). It's almost as if ixlramp doesn't want to admit how terrible Kalium strings service really is because he is friends with Skip and because of this the bad service is not possible (even though it is because it is happening all the time and people here and other places are talking about it). ixlramp, Kalium's bad deeds are not a reflection on YOU because you are friends with them. What is a reflection on you is what you say in threads here about an issue with which you have ZERO first hand experience with, touting a friendship as proof that Kalium could not possibly do anything wrong (even when they did) because they have good intentions (even when they don't). ixlramp, you are digging a bigger hole for yourself and I can only hope that your personal relationships are a little more grounded than what I see here on this public forum.

So, here i seemed too supportive of them, but elsewhere, i have made a big fuss and been a pain in their asses :)

You said it, not me. Cognitive dissonance. You can't have it both ways.

Wow. Maybe they should hire you. You do realize that you seem a lot more concerned about getting things right than they do right? I would suggest you get on the payroll for all the good work you do for them. In the meantime, as orders keep slipping and one person attempts to fix all this via email, facebook, public forums, etc. they will continue to lose business. Which really is a shame because I found the actual product to be excellent, unique, and all those other things. I find their business practices to be crap and that ALWAYS is the determining factor for success.

Due to wait times and poor customer service, my basses now wear Daddario nickels or steels purchased as singles from BSO. Kaliums used to be the only string I bought, but I had to look elsewhere.

This is EXACTLY what my son has to do for his custom needs. He prefers the tone and feel of the Kaliums but the extra cost plus shipping hassles make D'Addario the clear winner.

An unfortunately reality. I really liked Kalium strings.

Yes, he prefers the Kaliums too. The tone seems to stay more consistent over time for him vs other brands BUT at least D'Addario can be had easily, are awesome for the cost, and have great customer service if you ever need it. Don Dawson at D'Addario is a great guy to deal with.

Also went with D'Addario for the same reasons, especially when strings need to be sent overseas. D'Addarios I can get locally.

You continue to state multiple times that i believe Kalium have done nothing wrong. I have clearly stated multiple times that they have obviously done wrong many times.

No inconsistency, i was actually referring to how i am misunderstood or mispotrayed here by some while i am actually critical of them and have made a fuss elsewhere.

Apart from the last 4 lines which i welcome, your post #81 is untrue on every point and is deliberate misportrayal and ignorance of what i have written.
I have admitted i have sometimes been too lenient with them, and i apologise for this and the understandable offence that caused.

I recently got a Dingwall AB-1 so I figured I'd take a chance and order a set as I've liked them in the past on my other basses. Ordered them Thursday, got them today. Pretty speedy! Hopefully they have gotten their issues sorted and this will continue.

Just thought I'd post an update. The original set of nickels I ordered for the Dingwall had an E that was the wrong length. I emailed Kalium over the weekend and got a response from Skip that Monday, and a replacement string a few days later. So very good CS. Also subsequently ordered bunch of SS singles to make up a custom set for the Dingwall, and got them in about a week. So very good experience thus far, hope it continues for everyone as they have a great product.

Yeah, what systolic said.

For my longscale Dingwalls, the choices used to be fairly limited, and Kalium could produce a very nice set. They just took a long time to arrive.

If you need custom strings, Kalium will get it done.
Moral of the story: you can't rush this.

Now, Dingwall has upped their string options, and partnered with Bassstringsonline.com. Payson makes excellent strings for the longscale Dingwall basses as well.

Have any of you European guys used Sansone strings?
Doesn't talkbass have on online store? I may try to order from them, they prolly deserve the business for facilitating this site to help us all with our bass edeavors.. jm2c, p

I have used Kalium in the past, and ended up looking elsewhere - shipping times were pretty long. Recently looking at ordering a bunch of strings, I noticed a set on one of my basses that's been on there quite a while, and still sounds great. Kaliums. Hmmm. I ordered some Kaliums. Figuring they might take a while I also ordered a couple sets from elsewhere to have "in the meantime".

A day later, I got a tracking number from Kalium. 2 days after ordering, I still don't have tracking from the other place. It appears Kalium may have upped their game in terms of shipping. Anyone else notice this?

I've noticed that too. I ordered a couple sets probably about a year ago and they took three weeks to arrive, with no notifications or tracking numbers. I ordered again maybe 6 weeks ago and this time, they arrived within a week and tracking numbers were issued much faster, etc.

I may have just gotten lucky this time but it does seem quicker, and I do think the strings are good enough to put up with the wait. Still, I'm probably gonna keep ordering them long before I actually need them, or order a couple sets at a time.

I bought a bunch of strings from 4 people this time around.
Fastest? Kalium, Curt Mangan, and Just Strings - a 3 way tie in terms of number of days to get what I ordered. All shipped the day after I ordered them
4th: (still waiting) BSO
Keep in mind that all of this is apples and oranges - I ordered different strings from different places because I can't get everything I want from one place. The stuff I ordered from BSO was listed as shipping in 1-3 days - it probably isn't stuff he stocks. We're past that time frame at present - I'm used to this, he does eventually come through, so I just make certain I order stuff before I need it. As I ordered custom gauges everywhere, it's not unusual for me to get slower service.
