Double Bass Is there a difference between a power amp + solstice and acoustic image

hey,
i have power amp (qsc plx 1602) and mackie mixer into a bergantino ex112. its nice, but its heavvvvvy. it also lacks on some eqing and some bells and whistles.

i am wondering if it would sound better with a solstice preamp into something like a focus sa or a microhead slaved amped (ai, gb, etc)

my other option is an acoustic image focus. i want something that is not colored at all. i love the sound that i have now, but i need some eqing options....my only concern with the focus is that it is colored somewhat (ive read and heard that it is).

so my main question is will there be a difference between the solstice and power amp or an acoustic image...?

See if you can hook up with someone in Atlanta who has one and try for yourself if possible. I don't think the Focus is all that colored, especially compared to a Mackie mixer. And the form factor is worth a lot when you gig often. Any Atlanta guys around reading this?

I tried the solstice into a power amp (Electro Voice) and it wasn't enough gain for the volume that I play at, and frankly, the groups I play in aren't that loud.

I recently got an EA doubler and I like it.

I've owned walter woods and the focus. They're all good amps and each has it's compromises.

is there a difference between the focus and clarus other than some power, and is that power that big of a difference?

chris you also mentioed that the mackie mixer has some coloration..?

The Mackie Mixer will have very little coloration compared to most bass amps, but I suspect that the Focus will have a better input impedance for most bass pickups.
