Is there a Wal Bass Copy

unrelated, I just had a Clement built with the Nordy Wal pickup (blademan Big BladeMan 4 ) in the bridge position. It sounds far more Wal-like than I expected. It has the quack that I hear from Geddy during his Wal days. So pleasantly surprised. Wasn’t going for a Wal clone but ended up with a Wal-like sound.

Here’s my 8-string Wal clone/copy, it’s just the body that’s similar though, not anything else. The neck is a Warmoth and I had the body custom made by Music Zoo.

The Wal to me is a sort of holy grail, ive never even seen one in the flesh/wood, ive heard plenty on record Mick Kahn probably the most, i would love to play one but they are never in shops, and the people who have them wil not part with them, ill have to go to England to have a better chance.
So as for copys of the bass, no never seen one, seen a few Alembic copys but never the Wal.

And not to forget, Wal basses are very heavy, at least the three I tried were...Im sure that contributes to the tone as well.

I’ve had this very same bass, I also own the polar white version, although a very cool bass, it’s not Wal shaped.
But a beautiful beast and very heavy they also do the “ studio “ model.
Unbelievable basses.

that’s not really true. There are a lot of Wals for sale, so people who have them do part with them. They are not everyone’s cup of tea, especially the neck and feel is quite different. If you have a lot of cash you can buy a used one any time.

What about the neck in particular is different comparatively speaking to say a jazz bass or a Warwick neck?

Bit more chunky than a jazz neck. And many Wals have a V or soft V which is not for everybody. But it’s a matter of taste. I like both.

did he give you an option on the Neck shape? I just got on of his pieces last month, great bass! The profile on the neck feels more like a D shape though (has shoulders to it, flat bit for the thumb to rest in the back). Reminds me of the Warwick necks from the early to mid 00's

No. He just told me he doesn't do the V shapes. Of course, I didn't ask him as I am quite flexible about neck shapes.

I had an Octave Basses Wal clone and I liked it a lot. I recently sold it due to just needing the money (had a baby), but I'd buy another in a heartbeat when the time is right.
