Is there a way to make gold hardware black?

I am refinishing a Peavey Patriot and have the bridge and the tuners from a Koa Unity that I am going to use. They are gold and would like to make them black. Is there an easy and inexpensive way to do this, or would I be better off buying new hardware. I really want to keep the tuners because they are the old Schaller's with the pins, expensive.

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

You could paint the hardware, but that probably won't be very durable.

Powder coating will probably be your best bet, but I don't know if people that do powdercoating will be able to apply the powder in a thin enough layer for it to be suitable for such small parts.

There were a online shop that sell computer equipment that could do small jobs like that, but i just can't remember the name of the company... :hmm:

+1 for having it blasted, you could then paint it w/ wet paint.... I run a powder coat line as my day job (We manufacture commercial playgrounds) and coating stuff like a bridge and tuners can be quite iffy..... I personally would have it shot blasted and then prime and paint.... the key to a good finish is the prep work.......

I just did this. I've got a cheap Craftsman compressor-LESS powder coating gun that I got several weeks ago and I've been powdering parts on my motorcycle. I did some tuning knobs and the bridge on my BC Rich this last weekend.
You can find the gun for $30-45 on ebay. Get yourself a cheap toaster oven and you're set. I've been doing a bunch of motorcycle parts for other friends.

Very nice! That finish looks very smooth.

Also, what bridge is that? Looks sort of like a Hipshot A, but with different saddles.

There's some examples in there showing the finished parts as well.
Not sure on the bridge. It's a BC rich warbeast. I'll have to see what it comes with on their page stats. I wanted to do the whole machine heads but I'm worried that there's some plastic pieces inside by the gears and stuff it'll melt when I do the bake for the powder coat, so that's why I just did the knobs.
