Is there some difference..?

So I'll go straight: this is the back of a common active bass, Invalid Link Removed is the back of an ibanez sr-305, as you can see on the ibanez the batteries are placed in a different place that is the center of the back and so long I've only seen Ibanez doing this on their basses. Now, my question is: does this changes the sound of the bass? I'm not asking if "it sounds better" or "it sounds horrible" I'm only asking if this affect the sound of a bass and, is so, how does it change.

No, it shouldn't make any difference in tone. Ibanez isn't the only one who does that either- here's a Carvin with distanced battery compartments for one:

As opposed to above the control cavity? I'm not sure, really. Maybe there's less chance of CNC cutting errors when the compartments aren't right on the end of the body? Probably not- just talking out of my ass there

Several others are also placing the battery compartments in different positions. Look at the BassCentral.com site, click on NEW basses, then click on their front/back photos. Some really odd configurations on some of the basses. So it's more than just a few companies doing it.

I've been trying to find out about this too, removing a battery box or two's worth of wood shouldn't really mess with the sound in theory. Anyone got firsthand experience adding a battery box and having an impact on tone

It's all about manufacturing process. Not looks.

I'd worry about the Carvin battery box being under the bridge. There and right next to the neck joint aren't good places to have voids. Anywhere else wouldn't make a difference.
