Is there something wrong with this EBO??

Hey, good call on the logo thing. It just looks a little off. Might be the picture. either way I would think that if the neck was broken and then fixed poorly you'd be able to tell. the body crack is another thing. Honestly, if it feels funny in the gut, don't bother. EB0s and EB3s are out there.

There's a dot over the "i" and the "s" is way out of proportion.

Headstock shape is slightly wrong, too (could be the angle of the pic, but the upper corners seen pointier on the real thing....)

I say it's a fake.

IMO it is not a fake... Just an ugly repair job. The headstocks on the EB-0 can snap off very easily and it is a common repair to see. The rest of the bass has all the period correct parts and finish, so I would say it is authentic. I don't like the look of that body crack.

An EB-0 in good condition sells around $800 - $1200. $400 reflects the condition of this bass.

it also appears to have a crack from the top of the headstock to the D-string tuner. not that i have any real experience but i bet the headstock went and blew up at some point and the whole thing had to be repaired, logo and all.

The body isn't fake IMHO.
For further assurance get the pot codes (will probably read 13766** or something similar)

Get a photo of the whole wiring loom maybe too.

I don't think the neck is a fake either, just a poorly done headstock respray. Is that logo inlaid pearl or a decal? In this period it should be a solid block of pearl (not letter by letter), with a silk-screen painted logo, making the letters. If this got re-done it is inevitable that it will not look right. Trying to find a photo to demonstrate. But it can be redone. By the way the dot over the i was removed briefly around '69, but was still there in 66-67 when this dates from.

Can you get more pics? Ask for a photo of under the truss rod cover (Gibson truss rod cavity is quite distinctive). Get a real close-up of the logo.

The logo looks very much like it was written on with a paint pen. The letters are more curved - that is very sketchy. Plus the headstock does indeed appear to have a different shape. I say fake.

I have a '67 EB-0 and it's all original except for one strap button, and one post on the mute. The shape of the headstock and heel look different from mine and others I've seen and played from 66-68.

However, for that price...who cares? If the bass has the ridiculous abundance of tone that these basses are known for, go for it! (I'd be most concerned about the originality of the pickup and electronics).

I have a '67 EB-0 and I looked at all pics with my bass in my hands. Every single screw/part/nut is where it should be. So I can not see any reason to call it a fake.

The headstock and neck have clearly been refinished. As to why... The safe bet is that the headstock busted and someone did a poor job fixing it and/or retrofitting a new headstock onto the neck. MANY Eb-0 basses that go for sale have had a headstock repair done, it is a very common problem with them.

Here is a nice example of a '66 Gibson EB-0. (check the price lol) Besides the neck/headstock can you see a difference?

You guys are hallucinating. Do you see a smoking assassin on a grassy knowl too?
It's a Gibson. There was variation over the years. It's 40+ years old. The dot over the i? Who knows? Look at the pickup. Look at the bridge/tailpiece. Look at the body, neck joint ... Gibson. Your two photos confirm that Gibson did use the crummy looking tuners for a while.
It's like autism. One thing out of place and people freak out. This might shock some of you but they're not all EXACTLY the same.
