I might go for it though, would be cool to have a spare bass. And I need a case.

FWIW I sold my OLP MM3 (the 5 string version) a couple months ago for $185.
I think $125 for a bass and a case is a good deal. Like someone else said you can always flip the bass and come out close to even. Though I've seen people upgrade them and they turn into real beasts.

This happened to me a few months ago. I needed one of the form-fitted cases for a Spector bass. The cases are super nice with embroidered logos... and they're $200. I was perfectly willing to pay $200. Then I found a guy on craigslist selling his Spector Legend WITH that same case (almost brand new) for $350. The bass sells for $800 new. It was basically brand new. Obviously I bought the pair.

Do it. Very playable bass. As good or better than the squire. And a case.

You might be able to get a decent hard case for a bit less than $125...... but with this you get a bass as well. I'd offer $100 and see if he takes it. Otherwise pay the $125.... you get a case plus a bass that may turn out to be playable which you can modify, paint, de-fret or anything else without fear or concern that you're damaging a good bass.

That's a great deal! Hopefully your bass will fit in the case. If you don't like the OLP, you can likely sell it for $125 without the case, if not more.
That one with a flame top and tort looks killer. It may not play or sound like a USA StingRay, but its not a pile of garbage either.

I was there when the OLP first came out. I already owned 3 fenders (2 AMSTD and CIJ GL) and 3 Warwicks (2 FNA5 and FNA4), and my reaction to the OLP was, I bought one. They were about $249 back in 2001, and I believe I got it for closer to $200 (haggling used to exist at GC).
I am not saying it is in the same class as the other basses, but it was better than ANY bass I played in that price range, at least back then. My FNA had an ungrounded poles pickup that was giving an annoying buzz because it was right under my thumb anchor. Warwick replaced it under warranty, and didn't want the old pickup back. It went into the OLP and was a huge improvement, so yeah the original pickup is nothing to write home about, but the wood feels and sounds good, it is a solid instrument. I actually gigged with it with no shame, and I just started using it again, and it has been upgraded to CTS pots as well. I am seriously considering adding a basslines stc-2c-bo preamp to it.

It is a great deal, but I am pretty sure that the top is "foto flame", not that it should matter at that price. The pickup is wired parralel and the controls are VVT like a jazz bass, each coil has its own volume. My FNA pickup is pre " jazzman" so I only have one volume on mine since it was not wired for splitting. A common mod back then was the basslines pickup and a 3 way mini toggle for S/P/SC options in the hole left by the 2nd volume. And unless you really prefer the jazz bass "blend" mode (where one coil is turned down slightly for a slight mid increase), you could install the mini toggle in place of the 2nd volume and still get the series/parallel/single options from the stock pickup. I did do a gig or 2 early on with the stock pickup.
From the logo on the one you are looking at, it appears to be one of the later ones, note the L in the logo is distinct, where mine is blended in, so people thought the brand was GP or OP, and for sale ads frequently were listed that way. So subtle changes in features or construction might be there that I am not familiar with. OLP stood for "officially licensed product", they started with Ernie ball (the van halen/axis guitar and stingray bass), but later included other brands as well.

A good OLP is actually a pretty cool bass. I've owned several in my time. Some of the first ones were real dogs, but they became pretty decent. $125 for a decent hard case and what looks like an OLP in great condition? Sounds good to me.

So you've got a relatively cheap bass, and because of that it doesn't make sense looking after it?

Yeah, the pickup was never great. I did try the GFS and didn't think much of it. I ended up with a Seymour Duncan SMB4A in each of my three OLPs. I no longer own them, but I played many gigs with them and they did a great job. I had a fourth one briefly... it was horrible: heavy and uncomfortable. But the other 3 were very good.

Certainly true. I snagged a yard sale Tony Levin 5 for next to nothing last year and while the preamp was decent (maybe way better than any pre in its price point at the time), the pickup (which I still have...I'm taking bids) was little more than two magnet slugs dipped in hard wax which held the steel poles in place, the nut was a disaster and the adjustment wheel was DOA. It also weighed eleven billion pounds. It looked nice and had the MM vibe, but I'd posit was more like a wet fart by comparison. I still have the quilted body and neck if anyone wants to send me paper money plus shipping
