Garbage? I flew to Australia to acquire a 'Special' Fretboard Oil mixed up by Aborigines not only did my Fretboard shine like the Sun but I heard better detail, better articulation and of course more Bass. It is a must!

Dry Fretboards look bad.

The word “aborigine” is not used anymore to refer to our indigenous community. You can google for more information.

It's not a myth.

I only have passive basses now but my home setup is on a wall switch so I can kill the entire system at will when I'm finished.

now that there so many active basses out there, could the amp provide the DC 9-18v power required, similar to the way a preamp provides 'phantom power' to a condenser microphone?
Alembic have been doing this on Series basses since the 70's, and I did my first external PS in the early 80s. I'm currently using a battery pack at the combo to power some active basses (own design). External power whether battery or mains powered is possible, but where is the consumer demand for it? And then I'm sure musicians will make up or imagine all sorts of horror situations for it.

The battery WILL crap out 5 minutes before a gig. ALWAYS have extra, new batteries in your bag.
For many years, my only bass to gig (3 times a week) and to practice on was an XL2 and this never happened to me once. I did always keep spares in the bag though, but I changed them out routinely, like when daylight saving times changed.

Only amongst uptight white people, especially the SJWs and virtue signallers; I speak from first hand experience.

I was wondering why is this(cable in=battery active) the standard?
There are plenty active\passive basses so why drain the battery in passive mode.
It's standard because it's simple and it basically costs nothing.
In passive signal mode the preamp is usually still active because it would need more switching to bypass the power as well as the signal circuits which is a space and/or cost issue. It also means you can switch between modes seamlessly say in between songs with no power on thump as the circuits charge with the power supply re-energised.

What did you expect from this place, NOT to stretch out a relatively simple yes/no topic into an extended epic involving the battery industry, electromagnetics and the jack cable companies? We'll soon be discussing how Descartes' approach would affect tone, and if 'batteries' actually 'exist' and we aren't all just a bunch of brains in vats.

Believe me, I was completely surprised at the length of this thread! I was expecting one or two responses and that would be it. I too am home with a lot of time. I am on disability so for me it's nothing new. I do practice about 4 hours a day, so I am being somewhat constructive but I willfully admit that I spend a fair amount of time on here, and that this thread has been entertaining (I actually ordered lemon oil yesterday lol).
 
...How does any of this help the OP unless he has a Fender with Kubiki preamp; which he doesn't. It doesn't arguing semantics of a singular specific electronics setup that's fairly esoteric and uncommon isn't really doing much besides arguing. We've established that very very few basses have switching to fully power-down preamp circuitry besides unplugging...

I have again failed to properly convey my thoughts. A more appropriate response would be...

While it is true that most active basses connect their preamp and battery by plugging into the output jack, unplugging to save your battery is not required if your bass is equipped with a switch which removes the battery from the preamp circuit. I own such a bass and while I often leave it plugged in for weeks at a time with no battery problems, if I brain fart and forget to switch it off when I'm not using it my battery will die overnight.
IME with active basses they all have a way to remove the battery from the preamp circuit, and if you fail to disconnect the battery when your bass is not in use you will quickly drain your battery.
