Is this an original '87 Stingray?

So I'm looking for a fretless Stingray and got offered this bass. It looks amazing, serial checks out as a 1987 white 'Ray, but I'm hesitating. The unlined fretless fingerboard has markers, but only on the upper register (12th fret and up). I've never seen that before. Do you guys know if this fingerboard might be non-original?

Ernie Ball has an amazing serial database, but it still doesn't say whether it's supposed to be fretless or not...

With the serial number only way for the full detail is to contact Ernie Ball directly. The web page gives really generic info.

From the pic posted, the neck appears it will have a headstock 'bullet' truss adjustment, which will be correct for 87. But are there any pics of the headstock?

EBMM either made totally blank board or full lined board, not edge line markers, so someone had that done to an original unlined neck, and it does look nicely done.
The side marker dots are in the correct spot for fretless

For that age the SN is stamped on the bridge, those were transitional inventory, pre-EB stock that was pulled for a few years. I can tell you from experience that if you contact EBMM they will respond. I +1 that the info is spotty online.
This guy, Gav, is responsive and obsessively compiles this info. See if your bass is listed. Or ask him for help.

They also marked all their junk under the control plate so you can validate if that date matches the SN date.
