oof thats a long link but is this stingray a good bass id really like to know cause im in the market for budget basses and this always comes up.

Funnily enough I have a dimavery mm copy and the original neck/headstock was like a p bass so I bought one of these for the mm neck/headstock. Swapped them over added some gold/brass hardware n hey presto. Gave the rest to my guitar playing nephew to pratt about on.

There are budget basses and too good to be true budget basses. I recently bought a J & D Jazz bass and loads of people rave about them. I wasn`t really impressed: tuners were rubbish, took ages to get the neck to settle after a truss rod tweak, a couple of high frets, badly cut nut, sharp fret ends. The bass actually sounded ok.

The bass only cost £107 (so what did I expect?) and I was going to use it as a gig back up but it had so many things that were not to my liking that I sold it to the guitarist in my band to use for home recording which it will be fine for.

That is me done with the lower end of the budget bass market. Get the Ibanez, I think you will be much happier.

Just a gimmick Get a real bass and a real amp
You'll be much happier

Go to a store and try some basses out and see how you like them. lots of folks here don't want you to buy anything other than their favorite brand. Do a little objective reaearch and decide for yourself.

If you want to spend the money for a "mediocre" at best bass then sure it's worth it I guess...but there are far better options out there believe me.

A good new bass for that kind of money does not exist. Just like anything else. You can buy real Vice Grip pliers, or Buffalo imitations. Your call...

You can get a SBMM SUB Stingray for $300 new, half that used if you're patient. They're seriously decent. That ray is basically a knock-off of a knock-off; you might get lucky, or you might get a POS.

I do not recommend this "value". I do not recommend "packages". I do not recommend 20 watt amps. And the stingray option is not what you want.

Here's the deal. The Good. The bass has alder body which is just what you want in a cheapo bass. You do not want soft "forced" woods like "forced maple" or basswood or whatever. Even my Squier with Agathis (pine) is less than optimum. Those Chinese stingray bridges are great, however. $20 and I put them on all my SX basses. I also own a box of those stingray pickups. Equally cheap but not totally terrific. But here's the Stingray rub. The whole idea of a stingray is a severe active preamp. In passive it just is not there. I've got an OLP stingray clone and I've got to put a 'ray preamp on it. I mean with MUCH effort you can get one stingray tone out of it as is, but you REALLY need that preamp in there. As for package, amp is only good for headphone driving and you'd be far better off looking for sales on gig bags etcs to build your kit. Bass could work (like my OLP) but sooner or later you'd have to drop a ray preamp in there at minimum and probably a better pickup as well. I go with the recommendation that you go sniffing around stores trying things (especially used things). Look for just the bass not a "package" and then plan to collect other bits as you see deals. the quality you end up with will be much better and the "package" things won't last so you end up there anyway.

I'd rock it. It's perfect when friends want borrow a bass and you don't want to lend out your Fodera. If he doesn't return it, who cares? Go out on the street and play for money. If it gets rained on or stolen, who cares? If your kids grab it and ride it down the stairs like a tobboggan, who cares? Smash it on stage for your big finale. Who cares? A beater bass is liberating.
