Is this double thumbing or thumb-finger?

Can someone with better eyes than mine tell me if Ethan's 16th note groove starting at about 0:42 is double thumbing or thumb-finger popping?

Seems like it's mostly just thumb except for a few pops here and there.

Looks like he's using Double Thumb technique for the majority of the groove, but uses his finger to pop some notes- mainly on the G string.
It's very normal to see someone who uses Double Thumb technique to incorporate open strings, dead notes, and finger popping to vary the sound.
