oh good lord, we don't need all that!
$300-400 bucks can get her a real combo that's at least 200w (and has an actual DI out), plenty for quiet church gigs; the very newest ones like the fender rumble or the TC combos are also very light. if she can swing like $550, a rumble 500 2x10 combo is a real amp that runs extension speakers and can handle rock gigs, and it's still super light.
Well alrighty folks. We tried it yesterday. I plugged my bass into the DI/sound system. Ran a cable from the DI to my practice amp. Used earbuds. While not the ideal solution (I'm tethered even more now) it was a better set up than I had before. I could hear my own dynamics much better and that helped me blend better with the group. And all these suggestions and gerry-rigging my set up lead the crew down another tangent and they think they can get the singers on IEMs now with a couple tweaks to the system. Thanks for all the help.
