While that neck looks to be straight off of a VM J bass, that body looks like a mis-match. I held one in my hands yesterday afternoon, and it is made of 4 pieces of wood glued together in strips going in the direction of neck to bridge. This body looks to be of better quality. Also the tinting is not a match between the two as they are on either the Squier or on the fender.

See how the tint is pretty close on these squires? Tell him $300 and you will be a happy man, but never try to sell it as a fender. Cheers.

That picture on the Squier website is misleading. In reality the difference is way more noticeable.
BYW, As it is used and no longer "stock", $300 is way too much. You can get the same thing brand new with the proper logo for $300. $200 would be better.

I put the picture of the Squier as a reference. I literally held one in my hand and played it and was not happy at all. The pictures at the beginning of this thread are more misleading than Squiers website, however I still think a hot rodded VM jass would be worth 300, and if that is a fender body ... Definitely. That is the worst attempt I have ever seen at applying a Fender logo. It is off by at least 10 degrees. Buy it for $100 and sand that thing off before anyone sees you playing it like that.

Well, that's just it, how do you know it's hot rodded? And that it's an actual Fender body? I'm going by my own VM Jazz and it looks exactly like that except for the and pickup covers (I replaced the knobs on mine with more authentic looking black ones) which are quite easily and very cheaply replaced . It's not worth $300, especially since someone is trying to pass it off as a Fender.

The crappy mismatched wood in that body is a dead giveaway that it's a Squier.

Looks more like a Chinese counterfeit than a doctored Squier.

To me it looks just like a mostly stock Squier. AAMOF it looks almost exactly like my Vintage Modified Jazz except for the phony Fender decal on it and mine has an accurately placed thumb rest and Duncan Designed pickups with the logo on them. Either way, the important part is that it's a phony.

I used the word hot rodded because if everything else is Squier, those pups aren't duncan designed. And ultimately you are exactly right about the most important part. Cheers.
