Is this hand position safe?

Sooo recently I was in a lecture/course in biology about our old enemy, carpal tunnel syndrome. The lecture got me thinking, is the way I hole my bass now safe or am I going to have problems? See for yourself and lemme know please. (sorry for the crappy quality, my canon camera got destroyed by my dog, so I had to resort to my phone camera)

Your wrist is almost straight, not so bad.
The thumb is a bit too high. Lowering it toward the middle/bottom half of the neck will help your fretting finger extension.
You should keep your elbow away from your ribs, it will help on both accounts. Figure an urchin under your pit.

That's about how I hold mine, and I also type computer code for a living in excess of 100 wpm.

29 years since I started playing, no carpal. I have a cyst on my right wrist, but that's from the mouse.

I think grossly speaking don't grip the neck like a baseball bat and you'll be OK. Practice your scales nice and slow and those formerly-awkward jumps and positions will get a lot easier. Just don't let either wrist get to an awkward angle, pretty much.
